Cross contamination is when a potable water system (drinking water) becomes contaminated by another source. Luckily, at Shawn’s, we have very limited possibilities of this happening. However, the state wants us to talk to you about the issue and how to prevent it from happening to our water system.
Simply stated, cross contamination happens when a backflow pushes water back into the main water system. The most logical is an outdoor hose that is sitting out in a kiddie pool (which we don’t allow) sucks that water back into the main water system. Or the marina and someone sticks a hose opening into the salt water and we get a backflow. Simple solutions prevent this.
On all camper lots and marina spigots, we have installed a vacuum back flow preventor. This will protect the water system. All mobile homes should also have a backflow preventor on their outside spigots. Other helpful things are to drain your garden hose after use to not leave it under pressure.
We have additional resources on the subject if you are interested at the main office.
